Buying a thesis or a diploma is subject to disciplinary action
The Ministry of Culture and Innovation calls upon colleges and university students that those who submit a thesis written by somebody else as their own work commits a criminal offence.
The Secretariat warns students that the higher education law clearly states the following:
The thesis is part of the final exam, which comprises of the evaluation of obtained knowledge and skills, and there are regulations for different faculties for gaining credit points. Both the fulfilment of the final exam as well as obtaining the compulsory credit points is strongly connected to a student’s legal relationship, therefore the thesis is necessarily and exclusively the individual product of the student.
A student who submits a thesis written by another person as their own work commits a private document fraud which is punishable by up to one year in prison. The person who wrote the ordered thesis and deliberately aided and abetted such criminal fraud may be regarded as accomplice and punished according to the suitable law.
As soon as the Ministry of Culture and Innovation is informed of a fraudulent submission of a thesis then the case must be denounced without exception to the National Police Headquarters. The Higher Education Secretariat requests the rectors of Higher Education Institutes as well as the Student Government National Conference to inform students of the fact that such fraud is contrary to the criminal code and of its consequences. It also asks these institutes to take every possible measure to prevent such criminal action.
As future Hungarian intellectuals will consist of present day students it is simply not permissible for these students to obtain their degrees through fraud.
